 History

In 1806, Maddocha was just a wide-open space that was discovered and then occupied by John Madly and his family.  Shortly after John and his family had begun to settle in this newly found land, Jimbo Ocha and his wife decided to settle in Maddocha also.  The two women were out one day and accidentally met.  Mrs. Madly invited the Ochas to dine with her and her family.  A friendship was made.  The two men decided to settle the land together, naming it Maddocha.  They took Madd from Mr. Madly and ocha from Mr. Ocha.  Maddocha City was the first city incorporated in Maddocha.

The next city that was incorporated was Cookstown.  It was chartered by Charles Cookstown.  Other cities were steadily incorporated and chartered as the years went on.  Hardaway was named the capitol of Maddocha in 1836.  Maddocha has continued to grow steadily.
